Naturalization process

Naturalization is a legal process by which a non-citizen may acquire US citizenship.

Conditions for naturalization:

  1. The applicant must be over 18 years old. Children younger than 18 y.o. may get US citizenship together with their parents.
  2. The applicant must be in the US legally.
  3. The applicant, dependent on case, must live in the US for not less than 2,5 years within a 5-year period or not less than 1,5 years within 3-year period
  4. The applicant must possess basic knowledge of the English language (be able to speak, read and write in English).
  5. The applicant has to be familiar with the US history and understand the US state systems.
  6. The applicant must not have criminal records.
  7. The applicant must obey the US constitution.

Naturalization process

  • The applicant needs to submit to USCIS a N-400 form. The application has to contain an applicant photo, a copy of green card and a payment cheque.
  • USCIS will check the applicant’s criminal history.
  • The applicant has to pass an interview with USCIS.
  • The applicant must attend a naturalization ceremony to take the oath of allegiance.
