USA extends Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ukrainians until 2026

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Ukrainian citizens until October 19, 2026. The work permit in the US is also extended for 1 year.

This does not apply to everyone, but only to those Ukrainians who arrived in the US before August 16, 2023.

Ukraine citizens can re-register for TPS if:

– have been living in the United States since August 16, 2023

– already have TPS status and are renewing it

– meet all criteria for US national and public security

Which Ukrainians will not have their TPS renewed:

– persons who threat to US national security,

– convicted of committing any serious crime,

– convicted of two or more misdemeanors

How to renew TPS status:

1. Apply for re-registration to USCIS (Form I-821)

2. Provide evidence that you arrived in the United States before August 16, 2023 and live in the US

3. Pay USCIS fees or provide a waiver

USCIS will carefully review each TPS renewal application for eligibility and security.

If you arrived in the United States before August 16, 2023 and applied for TPS and work authorization, but they are still pending, you do not need to reapply. If USCIS approves your pending Form I-821, you will be granted TPS by October 19, 2026. A work permit will also be issued by the same date if the I-765 form related to the TPS application will be approved
