US nonimmigrant visa interviews now conducted only in the applicant’s country of citizenship or residence

‼️From September 6, 2025, US nonimmigrant visa interviews will only be conducted in the applicant’s country of citizenship or residence.

⚠️Applicants must demonstrate residency in the country where they are applying if the location of their application is based on their residency.

❗️This is a residence permit or official status in that country.

🔴This means that you will no be able to travel to any country where you do not have residency, status or citizenship and apply for a US nonimmigrant visa and have an interview there. This “visa tourism” is over.

🔺In this case, your visa will be denied immediately at the application stage (and the visa fee will not be refunded) unless your lawyer makes a strong case and provides compelling evidence that you are an exception to the rule.

🟢Rare exceptions may be made:

✔️in case of humanitarian emergencies,

✔️medical emergencies,

✔️for compelling foreign policy reasons.

🟢Citizens of countries where the U.S. consulate is not open or does not conduct nonimmigrant visa interviews must apply at the designated embassy or consulate:

🟢All active nonimmigrant visa interview appointments that were scheduled before September 6, 2025 will not be canceled.

🔵Exceptions to this innovation, it does not apply to applicants for visas:

✔️A,

✔️G,

✔️C-2,

✔️C-3,

✔️NATO,

✔️diplomatic-type or official-type visas (regardless of classification),

✔️any visa for travel covered by the UN Headquarters Agreement.
