Romania has been included in the US Visa Waiver Program. Now Romanian citizens will be able to travel to the US without a visa, having previously registered in the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA).
ESTA is expected to be updated on March 31, 2025, after this Romanian citizens will be able to register for visa-free entry to the US.
Conditions for visa-free entry to the US for Romania:
- Citizens of Romania will be able to visit the US for up to 90 days only for tourism or business purposes.
- Permission to enter the US after registering in ESTA will be valid for 2 years. During this period you can enter and leave the US an unlimited number of times. The main – the period of continuous stay in the US must not exceed 90 days.
- If a Romanian citizen already has a valid B-1/B-2 tourist visa, it can continue to be used for travel to the United States
ESTA applications can be submitted at esta.cbp.dhs.gov or by downloading the ESTA Mobile app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
US citizens already enjoy visa-free entry to Romania and are allowed to stay in Romania for up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes, if they have a passport valid for at least three months from the date of arrival.
Romania is the 43rd member of the US Visa Waiver Program. Qatar was added to the program in 2024, Israel in 2023, and Croatia in 2021.
