USCIS has cancelled permanent validity for I-693 “medical” forms (Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record) that were signed by a civil surgeon on or after November 1, 2023.
Forms I-693 were permanently valid from April 4, 2024, but this was cancelled on June 11, 2025.
Now, a Form I-693 signed by a civil surgeon on or after November 1, 2023, is only valid while the petition with which it was filed is pending. If the petition with which the Form I-693 was filed is withdrawn or denied, the Form I-693 is no longer valid. This rule is already in effect and applies to applications pending or filed on or after June 11, 2025.
From December 2, 2024, a “medical” Form I-693 must be filed immediately with Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Resident or Adjust Status). Failure to file Form I-693 will result in Form I-485 being rejected.
Under the new USCIS rule, if an alien filed Form I-693 with their Form I-485 and then revokes their Form I-485 or it is rejected, then if they file a new Form I-485 in the future, they must resubmit a completed Form I-693 signed by a civil surgeon.
USCIS also reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to require a repeat immigration medical examination if it suspects that the alien may pose a “public health concern.”
