Green Card application I-485 now must be submitted with “Medical” form

Effective December 2, 2024, USCIS requires that applicants applying for a green card – Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status) must also immediately submit Form I-693 (Immigrant Medical Examination and Vaccination Record) along with Form I-485. If you will not submit Form I-693 with Form I-485 your Form I-485 will be denied.

Applicants for adjustment of status generally must complete an immigration medical examination and all required vaccinations and submit a properly completed Form I-693 signed by a civil surgeon to show they are free from health conditions that would render them inadmissible under the health-related grounds.

USCIS has revised the instructions for Form I-485 and made it mandatory to file both Forms I-485 and I-693 together. This change was made to reduce the number of requests for additional evidence that USCIS can issue before a decision for Form I-485. This means that the I-485 review process will be faster and will not be delayed due to requests for additional evidence related with the “medical” form.
